All Private Investigators are not created equal
Often times when my assistant is forwarding a new client, they new client is calling to speak to a licensed private investigator, and 75% of the time it is their first time calling a Private Detective. Surprisingly another 10% of the time someone is calling us to fix a mistake from an unprofessional or non licensed private investigation firm.
Often times our clients are nervous about discussing their private matter. Many times they already a victim of a situation and need someone they can trust. Some cases the police departments hands are tied and/or they’re too busy to assist in matters that can be resolved by a licensed private investigation agency.
The first thing I do with my clients when they’re nervous, is reassure them that in my long career as a police officer and private investigator, I have heard many stories and situations. I allow them not to hold back on the details. Unlike the typical police department model of “just the facts sir” or the “who, what, when, where, why” type of questioning. I typically spend average of thirty minutes which each client learning every detail of their situation. We also want to make sure that our clients know that their issue or problem is considered sensitive and confidential.
The first thing to do is to determine if you really even do need to hire a private investigator. Many times when I realize that the situation cannot be solved by a private investigator, possible mental health situation with client, unethical requests, no contact orders, we are honest with the client and advise them upfront.

Sometimes we notice that the client has enough evidence in the situation they We often have to point out to people that call into the office that they already have all the proof they need.
We have heard of too many horror stories where private investigators steal from the vulnerable with mental health issues, or acting on emotion that are obvious to any experienced investigator.
Many times, when the new client is discussing their case, it becomes clear of the problem and we begin to build our strategy and game plan for the case.
As a retired police officer, detective sergeant, and chief of police, I have been dealing with these exact types of situations for several years. We’ve come across most of the deceptions, schemes, tactics and lies that people use to pull off and cover-up their activities.
